About Shawn Mesa
My name is Shawn Mesa. I was admitted as a lawyer to the Florida Bar in 1999 by the Florida Supreme Court after graduating from South Texas College of Law as a Doctor of Jurisprudence in the same year.
I focus on immigration law because of my family history. My grandfather moved his family from Cuba to the United States a couple of years prior to the Cuban Revolution because of government threats to his well-being. I feel the United States presents a tremendous opportunity for newcomers and I receive great satisfaction from helping people experience it.
I am an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and Hillsborough County Bar Association. My community involvement includes activity in the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce as well as sitting on Jesuit High School of Tampa’s Alumni Representative Council.
I am a native of Tampa, Florida and besides being a lawyer, I am a National-Level Judo Coach certified by the U.S. Olympic governing body, USA Judo. I am Parliamentarian for Florida Judo Inc. (the governing body for Florida) and I coach locally for the Florida School of Judo and Metropolitan YMCA’s.
